Resident Leadership Development
Saddle Up For Success - 2026 Resident Leadership Seminar
New Bern Housing Authority proudly participated in the 2026 Resident Leadership Seminar, "Saddle Up For Success," hosted by the Resident Services Committee on behalf of CCHRCO.
The seminar was held March 25-27, 2026, in Asheville, North Carolina, and provided valuable training opportunities focused on:
Building leadership skills among residents
Promoting self-sufficiency and personal growth
Strengthening families and communities
Creating pathways for long-term success
Through this experience, participants engaged in workshops and discussions designed to empower individuals and families to take an active role in their communities and future.

New Bern Housing Authority representatives along with other Housing Authorities,attending the "Saddle Up For Success" seminar, building connections and gaining valuable resources.
Participation in events like the Resident Leadership Seminar allows New Bern Housing Authority to continue strengthening its Resident Services programs while equipping residents with the tools and knowledge needed to grow, lead, and succeed.
Program Highlights
🎓 Education & Youth Development
- Hosted the Reading Stars Challenge, encouraging school-aged children to build strong reading habits and earn rewards
- Organized Academic Check-In Nights to support student success through goal setting, report card review, and access to tutoring resources
- Recognized student achievement through initiatives like our Progress Report Giveaway, rewarding academic improvement
Life Skills & Wellness Workshops
- Hosted the "Are You Prepared? Planning with Peace of Mind" Workshop, helping residents understand:
- End-of-life planning
- Advance directives
- Available community resources
Safety & Financial Awareness
- Coordinated a "Stop Scams Against Seniors" Workshop featuring a guest speaker from Bank of America
- Educated residents on:
- Common scams targeting seniors
- Identity theft prevention
- Protecting personal and financial information
Through these programs, New Bern Housing Authority continues to empower residents by providing access to education, employment resources, and life skills training-helping individuals and families build stability, independence, and a brighter future.
